Chocolate Blackberry Mousse

We’re not the first to say it, and we won’t be the last: Nothing beats a mouthful of berries and chocolate. But all too often, this combo stands resolutely in dessert territory, leaving its lovers torn between their healthy aspirations and guilty indulgence.

So to quell our cravings without compromise, we reinvented the pairing with an eye towards double-duty decadence, removing all things naughty, and dramatically boosting its nutrient, protein and vitamin profile. Say hello to one very mighty mousse.

Our creamy mousse melds tart blackberries, silky avocado, rich cocoa and protein-packed cottage cheese for a deceptively delicious snack that packs a big nutritional punch, with almost twice the protein of peanut butter, 13 grams of dietary fiber, skin-loving monounsaturated fats, a healthy dose of antioxidants from the berries and cocoa powder, and very welcome cameos from the ABCs of Vitamins (also known as Vitamin A, B and C). Swapping out granulated coconut nectar for refined sugar also keeps this “anytime” pick-me-up free of sugar highs and sugar crashes, thanks to this sustainable sugar alternative’s naturally low glycemic index. 

We love this superfood mousse for being decadent enough for dessert, but healthy and simple enough for an afternoon pick-me-up. Just throw all ingredients in a blender, process til silky-smooth, then enjoy!

Chocolate Blackberry Mousse

½ cup avocado

1 cup blackberries

½ cup cottage cheese

1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa

2 tbsp granulated coconut nectar

½ tsp vanilla

1. Add all ingredients to a blender. Process ingredients on High until glossy and very smooth (about 3 minutes), pausing as needed to scrape down the sides. Serve chilled; garnish with berries if desired. Serves 2.
